Asian Americans represent a wide variety of languages, dialects, and cultures as different from one another as from non-Asian groups. Asian Americans have historically been overlooked due to the myth of the model minority? the erroneous notion that Asian Americans are passive, compliant, and without problems or needs. The effects of this myth have been the failure to take seriously the very real concerns of this population.

Asian Americans represent both extremes of the socioeconomic and health indices: whiile more than a million Asian Americans live at or below the federal poverty level, Asian-American women have the highest life expectancy of any other group. Asian Americans suffer disproportionately from certain types of cancer, tuberculosis, and Hepatitis B. Factors contributing to poor health outcomes for Asian Americans include language and cultural barriers, stigma associated with certain conditions, and lack of health insurance.

Data source: CDC on Asian Health Disparities

Join ASIAN FOCUS and other Asian American community-based groups (coalition partners) in the Triangle area as we deliver an annual health fair with literatures, exhibitors, speakers and screenings geared for the Asian American population in the Triangle area. We hope to bridge the gap of health disparities by organizing the Asian Health Fair that will promote wellness and prevention. We anticipate the fair to include 50-65 exhibitors with 2-3  speaking seminar sessions that will focus on top health concerns affecting Asian Americans.

If you are a health professional. an individual, or a business willing to offer a donation, a sponsorship, volunteer or participate in the Asian Health Fair, please drop us a note or complete the participation form and return a copy to Asian Focus [contactus@asianfocusnc.com]; or by mail to: P.O.
